Soon after California Baptist
College moved to Riverside, a group of faculty and students began holding
services on that campus under a deep conviction that an adjacent church was
essential to the spiritual life of the college family. On February 27, 1955
twenty-four people met at the Edgemont Baptist Mission and elected Rev. C. A.
Norquist as the mission pastor.
The search for a permanent location led to the property at 8351 Magnolia Avenue.
This was a two-story colonial home on 1.5 acres, located where the "D" building
stands. A group of seventeen believers organized a church there on Mother's Day,
1955.
