Event Overview
The Burnt Offerings BBQ Contest has grown from a small backyard competition into one of the premier BBQ contests in the country. Founded in 2004, Burnt Offerings is proud to be the longest-running KCBS-sanctioned BBQ contest west of the Mississippi River.
Hosted at Magnolia Church in Riverside, California, Burnt Offerings brings together world-class pitmasters, backyard cooks, judges, families, vendors, and BBQ fans for a weekend centered around smoke, competition, community, and tradition.
Teams travel from across the United States to compete at Burnt Offerings, including Hall of Fame teams, national champions, television-featured pitmasters, and rising backyard cooks.
Whether you’re competing for a Grand Championship, building a Showcase presentation, or introducing your kids to live-fire cooking through Kids ’Que, Burnt Offerings is built to create an unforgettable competition experience.

- Beef Brisket
Standard KCBS turn-in times apply.
This division is open to all competition teams.
KCBS Backyard
The Backyard Series is designed for amateur or enthusiast teams who want to compete in a more relaxed format. Teams will cook chicken and pork ribs only, with fewer requirements and a friendlier pace, making it perfect for new competitors, community cooks, or those looking to experience the competition world without the full pressure of the Master Series.
Judging still follows the same rules and guidelines, but with a more approachable entry point for all skill levels.
Showcase Division
The Burnt Offerings Showcase Division highlights creativity, flavor development, execution, presentation, and live-fire cooking skill.
Unlike traditional KCBS categories, Showcase allows teams to push boundaries and create unique dishes using alternative proteins and elevated presentation techniques.
Teams will prepare and present a finished platter directly to the judges inside the judging room. During judging, teams will describe their dish, explain their cooking process, and may answer questions from judges regarding flavors, techniques, inspiration, and presentation.
Highlights:
- Live judge interaction
- Creative freedom encouraged
- Elevated presentation focus
- Storytelling and execution matter
- Outdoor live-fire cooking required
